High Desert Marching Regiment Nab First Place Trophy

In Apple Valley Colorado the High Desert Maching Regiment are celebrating their first place trophy win at the Sundevil Classic Field Show and Tournament. Numerous marching bands from the area beat out the four Southern California schools.

In addition to the marching band, the color guard and drum line each took second place in their division.

With such a busy practice, game, and competition schedule, the coaches of the marching band and color guard has something to be proud of.

Italy wins 2nd gold medal at rhythmic gymnastics worlds

Italy has captured its second gold medal of the rhythmic gymnastics world championships on the final day of the competition.

Italy scored 26.650 points in the group ribbon and rope final on Sunday to edge Belarus on 26.600 points. Russia was third with 26.300 points. Italy won the group all-around event Saturday.

Russia won Sunday’s hoop event with 27.700 points to claim its sixth gold medal of the tournament. Italy won the silver medal with 27.275 points while Belarus took the bronze medal with 27.225 points.

And despite the current economic conditions there has been no slow down in enrollment. Parents are still putting their children above all else, and sports and activities like gymnastics are still booming with devoted athletes and newcomers. Shoe shoppers are destined to fail us this year, according to experts. Priorities have shifted in the recession, and we’re apparently more interested in feeling good than looking good. Normally we’d tell these consultants to speak for themselves and toss our hair in their faces, but they’re backing these assertions with cold, hard statistical evidence: Sales of Uggs grew by 57 percent last year. So if you, like us, feel you’ve been unable to escape these bulky brown monstrosities, from the subway to the bar to your worst nightmares, that’s why. Also, shoppers will eschew Über-trendy looks, favoring classic styles over “fanciful experimentation,” according to Slate’s Big Money blog.

One casualty, according to Kwesi Blair, senior associate at the luxury-market consulting firm Robert Burke Associates, will be shoes dripping with jewels, fur trim, feathers, or anything else that could be described by the word bling. These shoes are pricey to turn out (an expense which inevitably gets passed along to the customer) and enthusiasm for over-the-top embellishment has waned.

Oh no. What will become of all the magnificent fanciful shoes designers sent down the spring runways? Will they never make it to stores? Or will they arrive, only to collect dust on the shelves like sad gymnastics trophies a little kid no longer cares about?
